The walnut supplier responsible for this was experimenting with a wood curing process in the late '60s and early '70s. They supplied the wood to Browning and Ruger among others. Word is Ruger will make it right if you send in one of these rifles while Browning will give you the "go-to-hell."

I was checking my T Bolt for salt wood, and the trigger bolt to the barrel through the stock and the trigger screw to the stock were both clean. But I just had to check the butt plate because of the post stating that was the definitive check for salt wood.
