WebGleysols occupy an estimated 720 million hectares worldwide. They are azonal soils and occur in nearly all climates, from perhumid to arid. The largest extent of Gleysols is in sub-arctic areas in northern Rus- sia, Siberia, Canada and Alaska, and in humid temperate and subtropical lowlands, e.g. in China and Bangladesh.
