Outboard motor runs for 10 minutes then dies
WebJan 5, 2010 · 7 Posts. Discussion Starter · #1 · Jan 4, 2010. Help... my 70 hp johnson outboard starts every time but immediately dies within 2 seconds. It can do this all day long. You prime it, raise the throttle assist, choke it, crank it, it fires up instantly, then immediately and mysteriously dies. Good fresh gas and the carbs recently cleaned. WebFeb 1, 2013 · It runs for 15 to 30 minutes then dies. Your vapor lock theory sounds like it could very possibly be my problem. But can you answer this for me? I have a pressure gauge at the carburetor that reads 6 to 7 psi. After it idles or you drive it for 15 to 30 minutes, pressure goes to 0 psi and then the engine will die.

I can restart it but upon each successive start it only runs for a short period of time, until I can no longer start it. After a long cooling period, the engine starts. The problem that happens alot is with crank position sensors. Once they heat up to operating temperature they stop work intermittently like a faulty oil pressure sensor does.
